(June 2004) Battery Hitches Hamper Performance Of Army Smart Munitions Programs
Batteries are not considered an important part of smart munitions in the world of military hardware. As a result, the industrial base in the U.S.A. is limited to Alliant Techsystems, EaglePicher Technologies and Enser Corp. for liquid electrolyte reserve and thermal batteries. There is concern at the Army Research Laboratories because  recently experienced problems of weapon system delays were caused by battery design and manufacturing problems.
