Electric bicycles will be banned on roads in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province in China. This is the first city in this country to make a ruling on a ban on electric bikes. In addition to citing environmental pollution from worn-out batteries, officials also state that more accidents and traffic jams will occur if electric bikes are allowed on roads which were designed for automobiles. The city also has a ban on electric motorcycles.
There is public debate on these regulations as to whether they are reasonable and legal and the environmental impact.
Will other cities in China take similar action?
